HDCP (which is built into HDMI cables) stops consumers from recording and sometimes even playing legitimate content a lot of the time. HDCP is a horror-story for consumers. If you want to record your own footage (say a family wedding) through an HDMI cable, it's very possible that the HDCP will stop you from recording it using the Blackmagic. HDCP is an evil invention. HDCP destroys consumers rights of fair use, denying them the ability to back-up old media that the consumer owns. Also, the Shuttle is very sensitive to frame-rates, and as is shown in this video will not record many consumer devices without the additional purchase of a TBC (Time Base Corrector). Having said that, you can accomplish what it says in the following review; The Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle with Thunderbolt lets you accomplish one or more of four tasks -- grab footage out of a camera, pass it to a computer, adjust resolution up or down along the way, and, at the same time, or at anytime, connect to a top-quality HDMI monitor and perform color-correction in the best available resolution.
